Start Small

One of the main reason that people fail at change is because they try to change too many things at one time.  If you want to be successful, you have to start small and make little, “baby step” changes. When you try to do too much at once, you don’t get to see the positive changes.  If you want to run a marathon, start by running or walking a mile.

Also, develop a plan of action.  Ask yourself, “How are we going to reach our goal?” You may not know where to start and this is okay.  Don’t become discouraged, sit don’t with a pen and paper and list out every step that needs to be completed. It does not matter what order they are in at this point.  You want to get everything out on a sheet of paper and in front of you. Take a short break from this task and step away from it.  Then approach the list agian with a clear mind to sort the action items into some sort of order. 

Start to develop a timeline for comletion. Wanting complete that marathon next week, or even in a month, may be setting yourself up for failure. Make sure your timeline is doable.  Talk to other people who have completed this task.  Get their input on how long it may take to complete your goal. 

The key to accomplishing goals to to have a plan and have the goals clearly written out along with every action item.  To me, it does not matter if you are trying to lose weight, declutter your house, or become organized. You have to create a list of action items, a plan, and a timeline.
